I should call this one 'headless' cuz his head is unfinished! lol Well actually it is. This is my original character Vambrace. The finished head can be found here... [link] .
Basically...
I drew the character on a cardboard background. I filled in all the main shadows with a grey prismacolor marker and went over his outline with a whiteout pen. Be on the look out for his colored version soon!
PS- if you looked closely, I'm sure you noticed bits that are penciled in a 'transparent' way. This method is called 'drawing through.' It helps maintain form and proportion for the character, and gives it a sense of weight and mass and it looks less flat.
